Title

Origins of the 'Mfecane': An Ecological Perspective

Description

[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: A paper by James Gump submitted for the Mfecane Aftermath conference held at University of the Witwatersrand in September in 1991. The paper argued that the Mfecane should not be associated with the Zulu kingdom as John Omer-Cooper's 1966 book the Zulu Aftermath had argued. Rather, it Gump attributed the period of wars and migration to an intensification of ecological degredation that led groups into conflict over resources.]
